Someone You Should Know - Theresa Moore.

Theresa Moore is passionate about Special Olympics in Delaware!  This year is Theresa’s 5th year as Sports Director and Head Coach of the Newark Dragons’ tennis team.  This team of 20 athletes has a wide range of abilities and there is something for everyone – skills, singles and unified doubles (where one of the coaches partners with an athlete).  Of the team’s 8 coaches, 7 are USTA members.  At the 2017 Delaware Summer Games, the Newark Dragons won 20 medals (7 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze)!   They are very enthusiastic and practice weekly to get ready for the upcoming Summer Games in June, which will be held at the University of Delaware.

In addition to coaching the Newark Dragons, Theresa has been chosen to be the tennis coach at the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games.  The USA Games are the “national” games for Special Olympics.  She, along with two top players from the state, Erin Bailey and Malik Bradford, will be representing Delaware in Seattle, WA, this July, for one week. Erin and Malik will play singles and mixed doubles against the best from other states across the country.  It is quite an honor for these athletes and coaches to be selected to attend Nationals.

Theresa has been a USTA tennis player for 15 years now.  She’s played Tri-Level, Mixed Doubles, Winter League and Summer League, and is currently on 4 USTA teams and a Wilmington CUP team.  Theresa is also the Sports Director and Head Coach for Newark Dragons Special Olympics soccer.

Theresa’s greatest inspiration is her daughter, Tori, who has been a Special Olympics athlete for the past 18 years.  Theresa is a great example of someone who continues to share her love of the game with others.
