After School Tennis Program Completes Its Third Year

For the 3rd year in a row, the USTA Delaware District with funding from the Delaware Tennis Foundation has sponsored After School Club Tennis at schools throughout the state. This year the program was expanded to 8 schools including two new middle schools, Springer and HB DuPont. The other schools participating in the program back from last year include Christiana High School, Conrad School of Science, Middletown High School, Polytech High School, and Smyrna High School and Middle School. Approximately 100 students participated in the program which brought coaches and volunteers to the school to introduce tennis to those new to the game, and help the more experienced players improve their game. The twice a week sessions were divided into training for one session and match play for the other.  The emphasis was on learning to play the game correctly, but more importantly on having fun. Based on the responses from the students, these goals were achieved. A big thank you to the coaches and volunteers for bringing this program to the students.
