Two Teams from Sea Colony the go to 2007 Adult League National Championships

Middle States gets lucky in Sin City

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. (Oct. 1) – Two men’s teams from Sea Colony in Delaware represented Middle States at the 2007 USTA Adult League National Championships this weekend in Las Vegas. The teams, both captained by Dave Marshall, competed against the nation’s best. One team competed in the 5.5 division, while the second team competed in the men’s Open Invitational.

Men’s Open Invitational

The men’s open team claimed first place, defeating Mid West in the finals. The team started the tourney with a 3-1 record tying Southern for the top spot in their respective flight. With an identical 8-4 individual score record, Middle States was selected as the team to advance as they had the least number of games lost (88). Going into the finals Mid West hadn’t lost a match, finishing 4-0 in its flight. Sea Colony dashed Mid West’s hopes for a national championship by winning the singles and the No. 1 doubles matches.

Sea Colony’s Wayne Odesnik defeated Michael Rubin 6-3; 6-0 in the first match of the finals. Winning doubles for Middle States was the duo of Ellis Ferreira and David McPherson who won 7-6; 6-2 over Mid West’s Peter Pusztai and Jeffrey Keen. Sea Colony’s K.K. Crenshaw and Craig Rubin fell in the No. 2 doubles match 6-3; 6-2.

Sea Colony’s open team includes: Dave Marshall, Graydon D. Oliver, Sebastian Faulk, Mike Duquette, Andrew Myer, David McPherson, Bryan Knepper, W. Russell Ramsey, Matthew Cloer, Davidson Kozlowski, Brint Morrow, Jonas E. Jarvholm, Baskar Anwalt, Alexander Golub, Vijaya K. Kannan, Ellis Ferreira, Ryan Valentime, Gavin P. O'Connell, Craig Rubin, Kris Nonnenmacher, Wayne Odesnik, K.K. Crenshaw, Shannon Buck, Craig Rubin and Peter Taylor.

Men’s 5.5 Division

The men’s 5.5 team, which was made up of a number of players from last year’s team that won the 5.0 National Championship reached the semifinals of this year’s tournament. With a 3-0 finish in Flight I, Sea Colony advanced to the semifinals where they would face Mid West, who also entered the finals with a 3-0 record. Their championship run fell short as they lost to Mid West 2-1 in the semifinal. Mid West finished second falling to Southern 2-1 in the final.

Despite the semifinal loss, Sea Colony’s No. 1 doubles team of Davidson Kozlowski and Brint Morrow won their match 6-3; 6-2.

The men’s 5.5 team includes: Shannon Buck, Mike Duquette, Peter Taylor, Dave Marshall, Craig Rubin, Ryan Valentime, Bryan Knepper, Andrew Myer, Vijaya K. Kannan, Baskar Anwalt, W.
