Delaware team Places Second in Florida World TeamTennis (WTT) Tournament

BRADENTON, FL (February 25, 2006) – First State Racquets, a local tennis team for the World TeamTennis (WTT) Recreational League, competed against teams from Georgia, Virginia, and Florida in a National Qualifier event held in Bradenton, Florida. The team became eligible for the National Qualifier by winning a local tournament held at Delaware Tennis Center, Wilmington, DE, in September 2005. First State Racquets finished in second place, behind a very competitive Georgia team. The Georgia team, Ball Busters, are now eligible to compete in the National Tournament in Indian Wells, California in November 2006.
First State Racquets was captained by Taya Dianna and Alison Moran, who now serve as League Directors for the Delaware District of WTT. Other members of the team were Lexy Malone, Bianca Skilling, Kenneth Rosenberg, Zenas Gardner, and Lawrence Burke. David Reilly competed in the Wilmington tournament but was not able to make the trip to Florida with the team. Going into the championship match against Georgia, the team was undefeated.
WTT Recreational Leagues are played throughout the United States in more than 1,000 cities. “The co-ed team format of World TeamTennis is fun, fast-paced, competitive and great exercise,” said WTT co-founder Billie Jean King. “Tennis is even more exciting as a team sport and the WTT format gives players the opportunity to enjoy the game at a new level.”
Another local tournament is being planned for April 22 and 23 at Delaware Tennis Center. Interested players can sign up as a team or as individuals looking for a team. Registration is open to residents of Delaware and surrounding states at all levels of play. Entries are especially needed at the Beginner (2.5-3.0) and Advanced (4.0-4.5) levels.
